One Month Later: What the CDT–DR. KAISER Partnership Means for Your Grinding Operation
A little over a month ago, Continental Diamond Tool announced a new partnership with DR. KAISER DIAMANTWERKZEUGE GMBH & CO. KG. Effective February 11, CDT replaced S.L. Munson as the official distributor for DR. KAISER products in North America. The transition is now well underway, with inventory arriving and customer orders shipping out regularly.
To discuss what this partnership means for customers and the grinding industry, we sat down with Shane Vardaman, Chief Commercial Officer at Continental Diamond Tool, and Christoph Müller, Head of Sales at DR. KAISER, to share the thinking behind the collaboration and how it will benefit manufacturers moving forward.

How CDT and DR. KAISER Support the Whole Grinding System
Roughly one month after announcing their partnership, Continental Diamond Tool (CDT) and DR. KAISER are already seeing momentum. The response internally, from customers, and across the industry has been very positive. Both teams are meeting regularly to learn the technical nuances of each other’s products and coordinate support for customers.
While the announcement has generated excitement across the industry, the real value of the partnership lies in how the two companies complement each other.
As Shane Vardaman, Chief Commercial Officer at CDT, explains:
“It's exciting for our customers to see these two companies coming together with DR. KAISER offering the dressing tools, CDT offering the grinding wheels. The two actually partner very well together, giving us the ability to serve all industries and all markets.”
According to Christoph Müller, Head of Sales at DR. KAISER:
“We don't manufacture some of the tools that are already produced by CDT here in the States, so now we have a strong partner with a similar company structure. That will be very beneficial for customers in the end.”
Two Companies with Decades of Grinding Expertise
Combined, the companies bring a century of experience to the partnership.
Continental Diamond Tool has been manufacturing superabrasive grinding wheels since the 1970s, serving industries that demand high precision and reliable performance. Meanwhile, DR. KAISER has built a global reputation for its diamond rotary dresser technology.
According to Christoph:
“DR. KAISER started in 1977. Dr. Kaiser himself invented the rotary dressing disc, and from there on that was our main focus—using diamond tools for dressing various types of grinding wheels.”
Over the years, both companies have expanded their product offerings beyond their core specialties. However, DR. KAISER remains widely recognized for its expertise in dressing technology, while CDT is known for its innovation in grinding wheel manufacturing. Bringing these complementary strengths together creates a natural alignment.
Why Grinding Wheels and Dressing Tools Belong Together
In any precision grinding operation, grinding wheels and dressing tools are closely connected. Dressing technology directly influences wheel performance, profile accuracy, and surface finish.
“Grinding wheels and dressing products go hand in hand,” Shane notes. Combining expertise from both sides of this process creates a stronger offering for manufacturers.
What this means for customers:
Better alignment between wheel and dresser technology
Access to expertise from two specialized manufacturers
Stronger application support for grinding processes
Expanding Capabilities Across Industries
A significant advantage of the partnership is expanded support for customers working in industries where either CDT or DR. KAISER previously had limited presence.
Historically, CDT and DR. KAISER have each focused on specific markets and applications that have not always overlapped. Together, they can now provide a more complete combination of grinding wheels, dressing tools, and process expertise to support a wider range of manufacturing challenges.
As Shane explains:
“There are industries that we have traditionally not been focusing on. Now over time, we have the ability to bring both products (dressers and grinding wheels) to these customers in these industries.”
For manufacturers in specialized sectors, that expanded capability means more choice when selecting grinding and dressing solutions, along with access to application expertise from both companies. This is particularly valuable for precision operations working with complex materials and demanding geometries.
A One-Stop Resource for Grinding and DressinG
One of the biggest advantages for customers is simplicity.
Instead of coordinating between multiple suppliers, manufacturers can now access a broader range of grinding wheels and dressing technologies through a single partnership. A gallery with links to CDT and DR. KAISER products is included at the end of this article.
Shane describes the benefit this way:
“This gives you the ability to have a one-stop shop, one point of contact for any grinding or dressing obstacles that you might come across.”
For production teams and process engineers, this unified approach can simplify troubleshooting and improve overall process efficiency.
Combining German Engineering with U.S. Grinding Expertise
The partnership also brings together complementary technical strengths.
DR. KAISER contributes its deep background in German engineering and dressing technology, while CDT provides decades of experience in superabrasive grinding systems and manufacturing support in the United States.
Christoph explains the vision behind the collaboration:
“We are going to develop a true partnership based on German engineering technology, but also on the grinding technology that CDT already has here in the States.”
The goal is not just distribution—it’s collaboration and partnership. The companies are working together to ensure strong application support and training that benefits long-term customer relationships.
Support will include:
U.S.-based application support for dressing technology
Technical collaboration between CDT and DR. KAISER teams
Training opportunities at DR. KAISER’s facility in Germany
The objective is clear: help customers achieve better performance from their grinding processes over the long haul.
Moving Forward
With inventory already arriving and orders shipping out, the partnership is quickly moving from announcement to execution. For customers already familiar with DR. KAISER products, CDT’s sales and support teams are ready to assist.
As Shane puts it:
“For those of you who have been using DR. KAISER for years, we're very excited to prove to you how we can help with our sales and support team.”
At CDT, we expect all outstanding orders for DR. KAISER products transferred during this transition to be delivered by the end of March.
